Apple TV Service Similar To Sling TV May Be In The Works

While it appears that the much-awaited Apple TV service is set to get a shot in the arm, it may take some time before the service becomes available in the market. The tech giant is reportedly working with TV programmers in providing an internet-based pay TV service similar to the Sling TV service of Dish, as indicated by unnamed industry sources on a Recode report.

Apple is not expected to offer a complete TV lineup but it may bundle specific programming and sell the product to consumers over the web. This essentially means that while Apple will not reinvent how television works since it will provide its own version featuring its interface and user experience.

Programmer demonstrations were already revealed by the company, but discussions are still at their starting point. In fact, Apple has yet to discuss the concept with all programmers and pricing has yet to be finalized.

The company has been alluding to the development of a complete video streaming service, but there are no indications that the product is already prepared for launch. This is mainly due to some issues in the acquisition of content agreements at reasonable prices.

Apple To Offer Web-Based TV Service Similar To Sling TV

Internet software and services senior vice president Eddy Cue said TV is not an easy issue to resolve. Among the issues to deal with is the existence of different service providers who may not follow specific standards. Apple chief executive Tim Cook avoided answering questions about the Apple TV offering during the earnings call of the company a month ago. He only indicated that the Apple TV box has reached the hands of around 25 million consumers.

The Sling TV service of Dish offers 12 channels for its $20 per month subscription. The channels included in the package are HGTV, TNT, CNN, ESPN and the Disney Channel. The package is aimed at budget-conscious individuals as well as people who would not want to pay for a TV subscription. The PlayStation Vue of Sony is also set to be unveiled soon. It offers around 75 channels for its potential subscribers.

So far, the Apple hardware has yet to receive updates following its March 2012 launch. Despite this, consumers continue to purchase the Apple TV, and Cook indicated that the company continues to find ways in offering more features for these consumers.
