Arizona Cardinals’ guard Mike Iupati suffers possible head injury; rushed to hospital
Mike Iupati was rushed to hospital in an ambulance during game against Seattle Seahawks today (Sunday, November 15th 2015). Mike plays as the Arizona Cardinals' guard.
During the game, Mike sustained a still undisclosed head injury when he collided with Seahawks' safety Kam Chancellor. The collision was not too heavy from the charging Chancellor, however, Mike got caught in an awkward position where he seemed to get his head/neck area injured quite badly when he lowered his head to bump into Chancellor with full force. Mike remained on the field, laying down flat, with no movements for about 10 minutes or so. After sustaining the injury, the Arizona Cardinals' training staff removed Mike's helmet and secured his arms. This could indicate a severe neck or spine related injury. The training team then loaded Mike into a backboard which was then rushed to an ambulance waiting to take the injured player to the nearest local hospital.
Stan Herring, Seahawks team doctor, who also led NFL's head, neck spine committee, was fortunately also available to tend to Mike Iupati after this head on collision.
This incident on the field took place in the second quarter. The game continued after Mike's departure and he was replaced by backup lineman Earl Watford. About 9 minutes and 16 seconds were remaining in the second quarter at that point in the game.
