Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver marriage to be terminated by divorce
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are facing the expected divorce process after 25 years of marriage suddenly shattered by the revelation that the Hollywood actor had a love child.
Maria Shriver filed divorce papers in Superior Court in Los Angeles late Thursday and is seeking joint custody of the couple's two teenage sons. As expected, Shriver is also pursuing spousal support and for her estranged husband to shoulder all legal fees related to divorce proceedings.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have been living apart since earlier this year when he told her about the affair with a former household employee.
The divorce lawyer for Shriver is Laura W. Wasser who is a known lawyer in Los Angeles, having represented high-profile clients such as Britney Spears.
During the long marriage of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, the "Terminator" star had been rumored to have affairs with other women. The issue has been brought up against him when he ran for governor in California. Shriver stood by him during the campaign and he won the seat.
Since their separation, Shriver left their Brentville home and is now residing in a hotel in Beverly Hills while looking for a new home. Shriver's representatives said that she is currently on vacation.
Divorce in California is typically granted on grounds of "irreconcilable differences" or less often "incurable insanity" and no evidence of infidelity need not be presented. Under state law, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver will split their property acquired during their doomed 25-year marriage.
