Bangkok still Under Water, 562 Residents Dead

Bangkok, still under water, issues evacuation orders in outer districts and residents. According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation informed that 562 residents had died since July, 2011. Flood is receding in other parts of Bangkok, while on the west bank of Chap Phraya, flood remains high.

According to one resident, their food supply will soon run out. Other residents left their house in western Bangkok after the floodwater rose to waist level. Likewise, businesses were greatly affected and worse, closed due to this calamity.

Krissana Laongkaew, a Thai massage owner had closed the shop after a 3-month operation, until a sudden rush of waters in the late October and everything was gone. Admitting that it was a stressful experience for they have to start everything from scratch or back to zero.

Roads in the western Thonburi remained closed and only limited bus services operates on some destinations, but mostly people travel through army trucks or small boats. While in other parts of the capital that has remained dry, drinking water is still rationed in places.

According to Bangkok authorities, 16,000 residents are in 163 evacuation centres while others have to rent or find refuge from relatives and friends where water has already receded and free from floods.
