Barack Obama Invites G7 Leaders To Meet On Ukraine Issue
United States President Barack Obama invited allied leaders to meet in Europe next week to determine any future action in response to Russia’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula.
Caitlin Hayden, White House spokeswoman announced the meeting this Tuesday as G7 members as well as European Union leaders meet on a nuclear summit in the Netherlands. Hayden announced that the main discussion topic will be the West’s response to Russia’s interference in the Ukrainian territory.
G7 members include the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Great Britain. The group’s first measure was to cancel a G8 summit scheduled to be hosted by Russia in Sochi this June.
Vice President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s actions saying they are nothing more than a land grab. He also added that the world sees the former soviet country’s real intent announcing new sanctions by the U.S. and its allies if Russia goes ahead with its plan to annex Crimea.
Biden, who recently visited Poland declared that both the U.S. and the international community is condemning Russia for its actions. The Vice President arrived this Tuesday in Warsaw and met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He is also scheduled to meet with Baltic leaders to discuss Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine and how it might destabilize the entire eastern region.
