Baseball Fan almost fell from stands after catching a Home Run Derby
Keith Carmickle, the Arizona baseball fan narrowly escapes a major or possibly fatal accident by falling from a 20 feet stand to a pool deck only because he wanted to catch a home run derby so bad.
This 250-pound-guy didn’t actually realized the seriousness of the situation he was in, until he saw the clips of himself hanging from the stands at Chase Field, Phoenix, last Monday. The said home run hit was made by Milwaukee Brewers star, Prince Fielder during the Major League Baseball’s All-Star Home Run Derby.
After realizing that the ball was going to his direction Carmickle immediately climbed onto a table just 18 inches wide and leaned haphazardly over the railing in front of his right-field bleacher seats and tried his best to catch the ball and literally went over the railing and dangled there for quite some time. It was a good thing that his brother, Kraig and his friend, Aaron Nelson made their best efforts to hold on to him and was successful in pulling him back up.
Carmickle admitted that the event was due to bad judgment from his part and has learned his lesson, that his life is much more important than a ball.
While Carmickle and his family are rejoicing over the fortunate event and that he is safe from harm, the same cannot be said with the family of Shannon Stone. Stone is the 39-year-old firefighter who fell to his death while attempting to catch a ball thrown into the stands by Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton.
These accidents are now causing officials to investigate on the safety of fans in ball fields, but in the end everyone is just reminded that they should put their safety first.
