Bellator Tournament Won By Rampage Jackson
The Bellator 120 saw a number of close fights including the match between King Mo Lawal and Quinton “Rampage Jackson. The light heavyweight fight ended with a unanimous decision in favor of Jackson, which riled Lawal.
Following the fight, the two protagonists shouted at each other for a rematch. The yelling match continued until the post-fight conference. However, the call for a rematch by Jackson was linked by some industry watchers to avoiding a match with Emanuel Newton, current light heavyweight champion, rather than wanting to fight Lawal again.
The format of the Bellator gives winners a chance to fight the champion. Newton was once the training partner of Rampage Jackson and the two fighters have the same coach and training partners. Jackson said that he and Newton have the same coach, who is the secret to his success, aside from his Wolfslair coaches. He added that since Antonio McKee is their coach, there are some instances when they train together.
Since his other coaches are from England, he would train at the gym of McKee and has the same training partners as Newton, Jackson said. He said he does not know what will happen to the gym since they are like a family.
Bjorn Rebney, CEO of Bellator, was unsure of the situation. He did not give a clear answer on agreeing to a rematch between Jackson and Lawal. He said that there are a number of good problems he is currently dealing with since he has a number of good fighters on hand.
Although Rebney did not give a clear answer on whether he would allow a rematch, he said that a rematch may happen if the two fighters are taken at face value. However, if an immediate rematch between Lawal and Rampage Jackson is held, it may affect the format of the Bellator.
