Benjamin Netanyahu Says Israel Won’t Stand For A Nuclear Iran
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minster said this Tuesday that Israel will never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, even if they will act without the support of their allies, including the United States.
The Israeli prime minister also said that current Iranian President’s PR campaign is nothing more than a ruse meant to decrease international pressure and sanctions against Iran. The declaration comes in the wake of the phone conversation carried out by Iranian president with Barack Obama, the highest contact between Iran and the United States in the past three and a half decades.
Netanyahu said that a nuclear armed Iran is a significant danger to the future of Israel and advised the international community to maintain financial pressure and sanction on Iran as long as they try to continue their nuclear program.
Iran’s U.N. ambassador replied to Netanyahu’s declaration saying that contrary to Israel’s past, Iran has never attacked other nations to secure its borders saying that this is because of a “principled policy”.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said that the U.S. understands Israel’s skepticism regarding Iran’s good intentions, saying that it is normal to suspect a country that just months ago vowed to “annihilate Israel”.
Netanyahu ended his declaration by saying that the tougher the international pressure the more chances for a diplomatic ending to the situation.
