Birthrate In The U.S. - The Lowest It’s Ever Been

A Pew Research Center study shows that the U.S. birthrate has hit its lowest point in close to 100 years since data started being collected, dropping to 63.2 babies per 1000 women from the Baby Boom generation high of 122.7 babies per 1000 women.

The decrease in births seems to be the trend in the last decade with a major point being hit between the years of 2007 and 2010 when the birthrate dropped from 69.3 per 1000 women to 64 per 100 women.

The biggest fall in number of births is constituted by the foreign born mothers, who at one point had a staggering 102 births per 1000 women, a number that fell by 14% to 87.6 births.

One of the main reasons for the huge decline in birthrate from foreign born mothers is the financial crisis.

It seems that states that have done a better job adjusting to the economic turmoil have had a far less radical decrease in births.U.S. born women birth rates dropped too, however, the numbers are slightly less impressive from 62.4 to 58.9 births per 1000 women.

Even with this drastic drop, the birthrate percentage attributed to foreign born women is still disproportional making up to 23% of all U.S. births, while constituting just above 17 % of the population.
