Black Male Shot By Off-Duty Police Officer In St. Louis
New racial tensions surge in St. Louis as a white off-duty police officer shot a young black male this Wednesday night. A tension filled crowed gathered today to the spot where the young male was shot, reminiscing of the Ferguson shooting, where an unarmed black male was shot by a police officer.
According to police sources, in the St. Louis case, the young male was armed and had fired several shots at the police officer before being shot. Family members of the deceased argue that the young man was not armed and was holding a sandwich not a gun at the time of the incident.
The shooting took place at 7:30 p.m. on Shaw Boulevard in St. Louis according to a police press release. The press release also specified that police officers stopped the youth as part of a pedestrian check, without elaborating what kind of procedure a pedestrian check actually is.
Sam Dotson, St. Louis Police Chief said during a recent press conference that the officer fired a total of 17 shots after being fired upon 3 times. The deceased man was anywhere between 18 and 20 while the white police officer was 32-years-old. For the duration of the investigation the police officer has been placed on administrative leave.
Protests erupted at the scene of the shooting with several police cars being damaged. St. Louis police forces made no arrests even with the violent nature of the protests.
