Blake Griffin To Undergo Surgery Due To Staph Infection

Blake Griffin is set to undergo surgery due to a staph infection along his right elbow, according to a recent announcement by the Los Angeles Clippers. The All-Star forward may be out for the next twelve days. He will be re-evaluated following the All-Star break.

Neil ElAttrache, the doctor who performed the surgery on the rotator cuff of Kobe Bryant, will perform the surgery on the 25-year-old basketball star. Griffin became a starter in the All-Star Game for the fifth straight time after he was voted in by the fans. His current averages are 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds to go with 5.1 assists for the Clippers.

Spencer Hawes is expected to replace Blake Griffin in the starting lineup of the team. Hawes is averaging 6.1 points along with 3.9 rebounds.

The starting lineup has become the strength of the team for the season since its bench is currently underperforming and depleted. Whenever Chris Paul is on the bench, Griffin runs the half-court offense of the Clippers.

Griffin will only miss three games if he is allowed to return right after the All-Star break following the surgery. He has only missed a total of four games in the five previous seasons, without counting his first season. In the four games Griffin was out, the Los Angeles Clippers were 2-2.

Steve Kerr, the coach of the Golden State Warriors, will decide on the replacement of Griffin in the starting lineup during the All-Star Game. Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers was selected by NBA Commissioner due to the staph infection of Blake Griffin.
