BMCC History

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) started its operations in early 1964. It was primarily a college that focused on business courses. In those days, BMCC catered only to students of business and liberal arts programs. Their goal was to be the springboard for a 4-year education in a university. Aside from their preparatory programs, BMCC also had management classes and training modules for professionals.

What started as a humble community college housed in a two-storey building in Manhattan has now become the largest college in the CUNY (City University of New York) college network. BMCC’s new campus is a sprawling building that spans four blocks. In the 60s and 70s, their student population was about 6,000. Today, BMCC has more than 25,000 students.
