Bob Costas Under Fire After Gun Control Rant

Bob Costas's halftime segment that took place during the Dallas Cowboys - Philadelphia Eagles game this Monday, had a bit more to offer than the usual football analysis and predictions.

Bob Costas the host of the segment quoted quite extensively an article written by Fox Sports writer Jason Whitlock that promotes gun control. The cited article was written in the eve of the tragedy involving Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher’s murder-suicide.

Saturday, Decemember 1st at about 08.00 AM Belcher killed his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins and commited suicide in the parking lot of the Arrowhead practice facility right after thanking Kansas City head coach Romeo Crennel and GM Scott Pioli for all the help and support they gave him. The incident left Zoey Belcher, Jovan and Kasandra’s three month old daughter an orphan.

The article Bob Costas quoted said “handguns… exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it”.

The article also states that if Jovan Belcher did not own a gun this whole tragedy could have been avoided. After the quotation “Sunday Night Football” host came under heavy fire on twitter with attacks from people like Herman Cain, Ted Nugent and Ted Newton. Other tweets said Bob Costas's opinion was sanctimonious and ill inspired.
