Bob Marley Would Have Been 68 Years Old Today
Legendary reggae singer Bob Marley would have celebrated his 68th birthday today. The Jamaican singer and hero died at just 36 years of age after a terrible battle with cancer.
He is seen as the biggest reggae singer of all time, being the first artist to expose the genre to a world crowd. The singer is also credited with spreading the Rastafari movement in his 18 year career.
His post mortem released album “Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers” is still reggae’s biggest seller, moving 10 million copies in the U.S. and close to 25 million worldwide.
After his death, the singer was still acknowledged as a great musician and honored with countless awards like BBC’s song of the millennium for “One Love”. He was also included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 while Time Magazine named “Exodus” the greatest album of the 20th century.
In a recent interview Ziggy Marley, his son, talked about his father’s music and its close ties with marijuana, saying that the controversial plant it is a part of their culture.
Bob Marley had eleven children in total, with a great deal of them continuing to keep his memory alive by also becoming musicians.
