Bradley Cooper Supports Bridging The Gender Pay Gap

Bradley Cooper is supporting moves in bridging the gender pay gap in movie deals in Hollywood. An article written by Jennifer Lawrence on Lenny Letter, the feminist blog of Lena Dunham, touched on gender inequality when it comes to salaries but acknowledged that she was angry at herself since she did not fight for more money.

The article, “Why Do In Make Less Than My Male Co-Stars,” Lawrence said she found out the huge differences in salary between her and her co-stars after Sony Pictures was hacked last year. The hack leaked emails of producers on the internet.

The American Hustle co-star of Bradley Cooper said she found out she was paid less compared to her male co-stars. She added that she was not angry at Sony, but she was angry at herself since she gave up early and did not negotiate for higher pay. Lawrence also wrote that she did not want to fight “over millions of dollars” that she did not need.

Sienna Miller, co-star of Cooper on American Sniper, is vocal about the disparity in pay between genders. She said she did not accept a Broadway play after she found out she was going to receive less than half the pay of her male counterparts. Miller was praised by Cooper for standing up for herself. The actor is pushing an adoption of a new approach in doing business to ensure everyone involved get their fair share.

Bradley Cooper said at Good Morning America that while transparency is a beneficial concept, it is not discussed. No one talks about what they are receiving in the movies they make. Cooper added that it should not be something that is hard to discuss.

Cooper said instead of talking about getting a cut or putting money somewhere with an agent, people can ask how much is everyone getting. He added it is essential for everyone to get their fair share.

The actor also said he is not aware of how much everyone is getting unless someone approaches him and talks to him about the budget for the movie. The discussion is typically about the financial constraints the studio is facing and people have to take pay cuts. The actor added that the only time people know how much everyone else is making is when the budget is discussed to make way for someone else to come it.

Bradley Cooper suggested transparency and give everyone a fair share of the pie.
