Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas To Evaluate Their Marriage
Reports have indicated that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are spending some time away from each other to think about their marriage.
The couple got married in 2000 at the Plaza Hotel. However, their marriage has been through a number of distressing events recently.
This year saw some hints of trouble between the two. The last time the couple was photographed with each other was during a gala at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan. They also made some red carpet appearances without each other and went on separate vacations together with their children. Recently, Douglas reportedly went on a vacation along the coast of Sardinia while his wife was in New York.
The thirteen-year marriage is considered long in Hollywood. However, the past few years were stressful for the couple.
The vows of the couple were reportedly renewed in 2010, which was the same year that reports indicating that Douglas has throat cancer emerged. The Bipolar II disorder of Catherine Zeta-Jones reached the headlines in the following year.
The actor also indicated that his illness may be linked to the stress he was experiencing due to the issues facing his 34-year old son, Cameron Douglas. Cameron is currently in jailed for possession of narcotics.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas reportedly decided to spend some time apart last May. During this time, the actress was recuperating from treatment for her illness.
Despite the separation, it appears that the couple did not file for divorce or establish legal separation. A friend of the family revealed the couple wants the best for their children.
After the first marriage of Douglas ended in a divorce, the actor indicated that his relationship with the actress allowed him to learn something from his past. However, if a divorce will happen, Michael Douglas may benefit from signing a pre-nuptial agreement he signed with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
