Universal Pictures announced recently that Charlie Hunnam will not be playing the role of Christian Grey on “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

The company indicated that the actor and the filmmakers came to an agreement that another male lead will take over the role due to his bust TV schedule, which will prevent him from preparing for the lead role in the movie. The author of the popular novel, EL James, responded to the reports of the departure of Hunnam with a tweet wishing the actor all the best.

James had tweeted earlier that things were going to be serious.

Last September, Charlie Hunnam was given the lead role for the movie together with Dakota Johnson, who will play Anastasia Steele.

A number of fans of the book aired their objections about the cast through the internet after it was released. Some fans also signed a petition to have a recasting of the roles in the movie.

Dana Brunetti, producer of the movie, indicated that casting does not depend mainly on looks. A number of factors will have to be considered including talent, availability, chemistry with co-stars, and the desire to fulfill the role among others. Brunetti indicated that one of these factors may have prevented some actors to be cast in some of the roles in the movie. Brunetti made the statements through Twitter amid the storm following the release of the cast for the movie.

Hunnam revealed during an earlier interview that he was aware that many fans of the book did not have him in mind when the casting for the movie was made.

He said that fans of the book have a sense of ownership of the character since reading brings the character to life in the imagination of the readers. Charlie Hunnam revealed that he was taking the role seriously and intends to discover the nature of the character and his motivations.
