Charlie Sheen To Make Public Announcement Of His Health Status

Following tabloid reports hinting at the health status of Charlie Sheen, the television star is planning to reveal his status soon according to a top crisis public relations professional in Hollywood. The professional said the representatives of Sheen asked for his assistance in revealing the diagnosis of the actor.

Fifteen Minutes founder and chairman Howard Bragman said plans of dealing with the frenzy among tabloids were not followed. He said it was an open secret within some circles and it was inevitable for the reports to come out. However, he thought it was necessary to give Sheen more time.

Martin Singer, lawyer of Charlie Sheen, did not release any statements in connection to the reports. On the other hand, Jeff Ballard, longtime publicist of Sheen, said he is not representing the actor anymore. He added they had some disagreements on how the situation should be handled, which caused them to part ways.

On November 2, Radar Online published a post about the HIV-positive diagnosis of an unnamed actor. The post was followed with reports from other celebrity websites without naming the actor. However, the National Enquirer identified the actor as Charlie Sheen, which prompted other media outlets to do the same.

The “Today” show of NBC revealed that Sheen will make a revealing announcement on Tuesday but no details were released by the company aside from the fact that the actor will be talking with Matt Lauer. The 50-year-old Sheen has been open about his life in recent years. Focus on his private life started after his public meltdown and the end of “Two and a Half Men.” While Sheen was fired from the series, he returned to the small screen through “Anger Management,” which was later cancelled. The IMDBpro shows that the actor has no movie or television projects for the moment.

Bragman took note of the fact that public understanding of HIV has improved since 1991 when NBA star Magic Johnson made his positive status public. The basketball star has supported AIDS-related efforts by advocacy groups and the United Nations. Actor Danny Pintuaro also revealed his HIV-positive status and his drug addiction issues in September during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Bragman said this may be a controversy, but it will not be a crisis for Sheen. Charlie Sheen can gain sympathy if he handles it well and will have an opportunity to educate the public about the disease, which can affect anyone.
