China And Japan Fight Over East China Sea Island
Tension rises between China and Japan after more than a dozen of Chinese activists landed on the disputed island in the East China Sea and were arrested by Japanese authorities on Wednesday. The activists had set out from Hong Kong for the islands, which are called Diaoyu by the Chinese and Senkaku by Japan. Chinese government demanded Japan to immediately release and ensure the safety of their citizens.
Report said the activists carried with them five Chinese flags, allegedly intending to evade Japanese authorities patrolling the islands and to use the flags to claim the territory for China. The arrested group claimed that its boat had been rammed by the coastguard and was hit by water cannon. Though, Japanese authorities denied all the allegations and stated that no such thing happened.
The conflict between the two countries intensified on the anniversary of the end of the World War IIcombat where the Japanese soldiers were defeated in 1945. It was the event that still brings enmity among Japan’s neighbors because of its war-time atrocities.
A spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry has released a statement urging Japan to cease from doing anything that would threaten Chinese citizens or their property.
