Cleveland Browns Hire Chudzinski As New Head Coach
The Cleveland Browns hired Rob Chudzinski to be the sixth full-time coach of the team since 1999. The team is hoping that the new head coach will turn its fortunes for the better and probably bring life back into the franchise that made the playoffs only once in the last fourteen years.
The hiring was confirmed by a spokesman from the Cleveland Browns. Chudzinski will be officially introduced by the team in a press conference.
Chudzinski is hoping to get Norv Turner, a former coach of the San Diego Chargers, as his offensive coordinator. The new coach of the Cleveland Browns was able to work with Scott Turner, the son of Norv, in Carolina.
Chudzinski will be the fourteenth coach in the history of the Cleveland Browns. But this is not the first time he joined the team since he was hired as an assistant coach of the team in two separate occasions in the past.
Chudzinski was considered as a long shot for the coaching job at the Cleveland Browns. But his meeting with Joe Banner and Jimmy Haslam, the CEO and owner of the team respectively, allowed him to make a good impression. There were eight other candidates for the job aside from Chudzinski.
The Cleveland Browns was in the market for a new coach following the firing of Pat Shurmur last December 31.Chudzinski was part of the coaching staff of the Panthers prior to his hiring. He was able to work with the skilled quarterback of the Panthers, Cam Newton.
A number of college coaches and NFL assistant coaches were interviewed by the Cleveland Browns before they hired Chudzinski. The second interview of Ken Whisenhunt, a former coach of Arizona, hinted at the possibility that he will get the job.
Although getting Chudzinski as the head coach will not be cause for celebration among Cleveland Browns fans, it is consistent with the record of Banner in hiring a coach who does not have an impressive resume.
