Experts said that nuns and women who never had children are prone to breast, ovarian and uterine cancers, compared with mothers. In addition, researchers said that contraceptive pills can help reduce the risk of having reproductive cancers.

Moreover, according to recent studies, the risk of acquiring these cancers depends on the number of menstrual cycle a woman experiences. Nuns who have taken vows before having children are prone to the risk for they have many menstrual cycles. Reproductive tracts are designed for pregnancy and lactation and if you never experienced both of these, tumors or other ailments may develop in the uterus, ovary and breast.

Currently, researchers said that contraceptive pills can lessen the risk of cancer, specifically ovarian cancer because it gives a dose of progesterone and estrogen, known hormones that the release of new eggs.

Indeed the use of pills has advantages, but it also has a disadvantage especially to female smokers over the age of 35. Pills cause the blood to clot which may lead to heart attacks. Thus, taking contraceptive pill is a personal decision wherein advantages and disadvantages must be weighed appropriately and medical history should be taken into consideration.
