The LA Coroner’s Office released additional information on the death of Natalie Wood that gave indications of bruises on the body of the actress appeared fresh and may have happened before she drowned thirty years ago.

The new findings resulted to a change in the cause of death of Natalie Wood to drowning and other uncertain factors from accident as the original cause of death. The manner of death of Natalie Wood was also amended to undetermined.

Bruises on the arms and legs of Wood were specified on the report. It also indicated that her left forearm had a four-inch bruise. The left thigh of Natalie Wood also had a number of fresh bruises measuring one-inch. The back of her legs also had a number of scratches and bruises. Superficial abrasions were also found on the left forehead, left upper cheek, and the left eyebrow of Natalie Wood.

According to Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, the chief medical examiner, the multiplicity and location of the bruises, along with the absence of facial bruising or head trauma support the possibility that it happened before Wood entered the water. The unanswered questions along with the limited number of additional evidence to be evaluated have resulted to an undetermined manner of death.

Natalie Wood died after a party on a boat together with Robert Wagner, her husband on November 29, 1981. Christopher Walken also attended the party. The body of Wood was discovered along the coast of Santa Catalina Island in California. It was not clear how she went into the water.

The investigation on the death of Natalie Wood was reopened by the LA Country Sheriff’s Department in 2011. Wagner was not considered a suspect by the authorities.

Natalie Wood, who was 43 when she died, was popular for the roles she played in a number of movies including the “West Side Story” and “Miracle on 34th Street.”
