Dennis Rodman Visits North Korea Again

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman paid another visit to North Korea recently. The former basketball star aims to visit his “friend” Kim Jong-un, the leader of the country that threatened to use nuclear weapons against the United States.

Although Rodman revealed that he was going on a five-day visit to North Korea, he indicated that the visit was not connected to any discussions of securing the release of the Korean-American missionary who was jailed for nearly a year. He said that he was not going to the North to talk about the release of Kenneth Bae.

Rodman indicated that his main objective was basketball diplomacy. The visit comes as the relations between the North and South have started to improve.

Vice Media was the sponsor of the last visit of Dennis Rodman to Pyongyang. The trip resulted to criticisms for being too comfortable with a government that has an unenviable human rights record. The sponsor of the latest trip is Paddy Power, a gambling operation based in Ireland. The company also sponsored the Vatican City trip of Rodman.

Rodman revealed that his latest trip to the North was about sports and friendship. He said he wanted to see his friend and talk about basketball.

Dennis Rodman revealed that the people of North Korea love Kim Jong-un during his visit to the North last March. He also indicated that the leader of the North was “awesome.”

The visit came as tensions between the North and the United States reached new heights. The North issued threats of using nuclear weapons against Seoul and Washington, which resulted from the sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council. The sanctions came after the nuclear tests that Pyongyang conducted last February.

The visit of Dennis Rodman comes after the invitation to a senior US diplomat, Robert King, was rescinded by North Korea.
