Director Edgar Wright, best known for his three collaborations with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost on movies such as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, has apparently parted ways with Marvel and will no longer direct the much anticipated Ant-Man movie.

According to this Friday’s press release, the British director and Marvel have ceased their cooperation amicably due to creative differences in their vision for the movie. The departure of Wright will not affect the release date of Ant Man which is set on the 17th of July 2015. A new director is being brought in and his name will be disclosed shortly, the press release confirmed.

Edgar Wright’s departure from Ant-Man came as a shock to many, considering that the Hot Fuzz director was involved with the movie since it was first announced, back in 2006. The British director was expected to bring a different approach to Marvel movies, who are on an incredibly successful run with their superhero approach.

Ant-Man was late in pre-production when the split happened and had the majority of its cast settled. It consists of Paul Rudd who will play Scott Lange aka Ant Man , Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson.
