Dislike Button May Be Offered To Facebook Users
Facebook is set to test new buttons to provide users more emotions to use in expressing themselves through their social media accounts. CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg said not all moments are good moments. Zuckerberg added that there are some events that may not be liked by people, including the passing of a family member or the refugee crisis in Europe. However, he does not want the posts to be simply voted up or down by users.
The social networking company aims to provide users the opportunity to share their emotions in a number of ways. Zuckerberg indicated that it is not easy to create a simple interaction.
The move demonstrates a major move on the part of the biggest social network in the world. The “like” button has been so closely-associated with the service that it became the logo greeting visitors to its headquarters in Menlo Park, California. However, a number of users are frustrated that they can only give a thumbs-up sign or leave a comment on posts of other users. Following the announcement of that a dislike button was being tested by Facebook, the Q&A video of Zuckerberg got over 1,200 “likes” within one hour.
Monthly town-hall style sessions have been held by Zuckerberg at the headquarters of the company since November. Discussions during these sessions include internet trends, free speech and social issues. Zuckerberg is planning to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India within the month to discuss a number of issues, including economic and social challenges.
The future of technology was also discussed by Zuckerberg, specifically artificial intelligence. A number of tech leaders have given their opinions about AI, and its potential to become a threat in the future. While Zuckerberg said he was not too concerned since the technology is still in the early parts of development, he highlighted its potential in saving lives, such as the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. He indicated that all new technology have the potential to be good or bad, but he is essentially optimistic when it comes to human nature and the ability of humans to do good.
He also talked about freedom of speech and racism and the world free from war or diseases after someone asked him about the world he foresee for his soon-to-be-born daughter. He said this may be possible in the lifetime of their children.
Zuckerberg also said Facebook may have a role to play in the future world. It can be done through the use of virtual reality and Oculus VR, which was acquired by the company for $2 billion last year. He said the device can be used by his daughter for education allowing her to be transported to different locations around the world.
Facebook can also assist people in learning about the world through the sharing of pictures showing the European refugee crisis. While these things may enrage and disturb users, it is important for people to see them. Zuckerberg added that Facebook is collaborating with local leaders and educators within the San Francisco Bay Area to bring technology into schools along with affordable housing. He said it is necessary for them to make their contribution to the housing stock in order to become a “responsible member of the community.”
Zuckerberg also gave the audience a view of himself and his work habits. He revealed that the cactus sticker set Facebook developed are his favorite emojis. He said he posted a picture showing a cactus eating food to respond to his wife, who said she was hungry.
He also revealed that while he may wear similar clothes each day, he does wear colorful clothing items during weekends. He added that he is not worried if the company will not last forever, saying that nothing lasts forever. Zuckerberg also said he is puzzled why people attempt to create companies that last forever. Mark Zuckerberg also said he will be satisfied if the goals of Facebook in connecting people around the world as well as provide them communication tools are reached.
