Doc Rivers Deal Nearly Completed
In principle, Doc Rivers will go to the LA Clippers following the agreement between the Clippers and the Boston Celtics. This was revealed by unnamed NBA sources.
The Clippers gave the Celtics an unprotected first-round draft pick for 2015 in return for the rights to reach a deal with Rivers. Rivers currently has $21 million and three years left on his contract. Sources revealed that this is the contract that the Clippers will negotiate with the coach.
However, the deal will not be finalized until the league gives its approval.
The sources added that the president and vice president of the LA Clippers, Andy Roeser and Gary Sacks respectively, met with the president of basketball operations of Boston, Danny Ainge, to discuss the deal for Doc Rivers. During the entire process, the two All-Star players of the Clippers, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, were informed of what was happening in the discussion.
For now, the Clippers are focusing on keeping Chris Paul since he will become an unrestricted free agent by July 1. Paul can sign up for a five-year deal worth around $107.3 million if he decides to stay in LA. Chris Paul will reportedly stay with the Clippers since Doc Rivers is set to join the team for the next season.
