Ebola Concerns Leads To Mandatory Quarantines
Governors from states such as New York and New Jersey announced that they will back plans to quarantine all health workers that have returned from Ebola infested countries in West Africa despite being harshly criticized by President Obama and the White House administration.
The governors of these states also announced that house quarantine will be permitted in a move to appease some critics of the harsh measure. Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York state appeared less fervent about the measure after a message from the White House whose representatives said the quarantine could impede the Ebola fight worldwide.
Cuomo lauded the “valor” and “courage” of volunteers and medical professionals that have chosen to help the Ebola fight in West Africa but reiterated that the quarantine measures will not change.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who first announced and enforced the Ebola quarantine measure last Friday repeated this Sunday that despite the issues raised by the White House the measure will not change. Nurse Kaci Hicox was the first patient to be quarantined under the new legislation. She was placed on a 21 day quarantine at New Jersey Hospital after returning from a humanitarian mission in Sierra Leone.
Hicox doesn’t seem to be a fan of the new safety measures and has announced through her lawyer that she will fight the quarantine in court as it violates her constitutional rights.
