Egypt Revolting As President Morsi Stands Firm
Not a lot seems to have changed in Egypt after the “Arab Spring”, a period that was filled with bloody revolts as Egyptians deposed Hosni Mubarak, and installed a new government.
The new president of Egypt Mohammed Morsi seems to have learned little from his predecessor and is trying to attain more power in what he calls an effort to “stop Mubarak era judges and other officials from disrupting the country’s political transition”.
Protesters have taken to the streets yet again as they feel they have been forgotten and what was supposed to be a revolt to throw a dictator out and establish a free and democratic regime has turned out to be more of the same power hungry politicians fighting to get extended powers.
In a discourse that sounds a lot like Mubarak’s, Morsi implies that protesters are thugs and secularists, remains of the old regime that are trying to subvert the political transition of Egypt. He has also implied that the protesters are somehow bad Muslims.
Protesters are outraged and betrayed saying that “Morsi and The Brotherhood is dividing us and they talk of religion as if only they own it”. Most of the protesters are the very same protesters that revolted and facilitated Hosni Mubarak’s overthrow and hopefully a better future for Egypt.
