Elderly Man In Critical Condition After Early Morning Auto Accident

Car Accident Injury

This morning an elderly man was struck by a car while crossing the street. He suffered major head trauma and is now listed in “critical condition” at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

The car accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near the corners of Vane Avenue and Cortada Street in el Monte, according to El Monte police Lt. Dan Burlingham. Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle who struck the gentleman stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the polcie. While no criminal investigation or charges have been reported, it is possible that the victim or his family may file a negligence claim associated with the event.

Since 2005 there have been 18,873 reported auto related fatalities in California. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), every year there are more than 6,000,000 car accidents with more than 1,500,000 injuries and more than 20,000 deaths. Yes, these are sobering statistics. While most car accidents are caused by driver negligence there is an increasing amount that are caused by external events.
