Energy Drink Cocktails Increase Desire To Drink
Cocktails that use energy drinks as one of the main ingredients have now been around for a good time, becoming one of the most popular choices in bars and clubs across the United States and the World.
According to a recent study it appears that mixing these caffeinated energy drinks with alcohol will increase the consumer’s desire to keep drinking. According to a small study performed on young adults in Australia, it was concluded that the mix of energy drinks and alcohol could increase the risk of dangerous binge drinking.
Researchers declared that they cannot yet say whether it is the caffeine in the energy drink or the sugar and similar additives that when combined with alcohol makes the drink more desirable that drinking alcohol alone.
Lead researcher Rebecca McKetin associated with the Center for Research on Aging, Health and Well-being at the Australia National University in Caberra and co-author Alice Coen based the study on 75 participants who were aged 18 to 30. They had to fill in a questionnaire where they were asked about their desire to drink. Participants were then assigned to drink either a mix of energy drink, fruit juice and two shots of vodka or soda water, fruit juice and two shots of vodka.
The questionnaires were completed 20 minutes after the participants chose their drinks. The results showed that participants who chose the combination that contained an energy drink manifested a greater desire to continue drinking.
