A new pair of Epson Smart Glasses was unveiled recently by the tech company. Moverio BT-200, which was officially introduced by Epson, can be purchased online at a price tag of $700.

A small LCD-based projection lens system with an optical light guide one each side will be used by the augmented reality glasses. The optical light guide will superimpose digital content on whatever the user will see.

The device is similar to the Oculus Rift as it features a display with a resolution of 960x540 pixels that offers an aspect ratio of 16:9. It also offers a field of view of 23 degrees, which can be expanded to a panoramic view of 360 degrees with the addition of a third-party application.

The Epson Smart Glasses was initially unveiled by the company during the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year in Las Vegas with a price tag of $699.99. The company also introduced a fitness band and watch during the same event. Director of new products at Epson, Anna Jen, said feedback from end-user communities and the AR developer was integrated into the recently-launched specs.

Jen said the enhancements allow the Moverio BT-200 to offer an AR experience the transforms training, workflow and repair within a business environment. The price tag is lower than the $950 of the original model of the Moverio glasses.

Head tracking is enabled through an accelerometer, magnetic compass and gyroscope inside the device. Head tracking us used for gaming as well as hands-free navigation. Images and videos can also be recorded through a front-facing camera, which can be used in detecting actual markers used for AR apps.

An Android-based controller can also be used in accessing AR applications and HD streaming through HDMI. It also features 32GB of storage, microSDHC memory card slot and Dolby Digital speakers.

Prescription lenses can also be inserted into the Epson smart glasses, which offer an optional sun shade.
