Ex-Hornet David West becomes Free Agent
The two-time all-star forward, who was drafted by the New Orleans 8 years ago, is now ready to move on. After a good performance for the New Orleans crowd, David West is out to test the waters of free agency.
In a telephone interview West said, "It's about making the best decision right now for my family." The Hornets' leading scorer is walking away from the guaranteed $7.5 million, in his last year for the team. However, the forward said that his decision is also about winning. Not just winning regular season games, or making it to the playoffs. It's about being a legitimate championship contender.
The big question is whether he will ever get the right pay he wants, considering that he is still just in the process of rehabilitating his knee which suffered an ACL injury during a March 24 victory in Utah.
But West assures that he is still a prized player who can play good ball. A testament to such is that 2 days after his April 12 surgery, he dove "headfirst" into rehabilitation, one that could last within 6 to 8 months depending on his recovery speed.
For now, the 31-year old West has to wait for the announcement of free agnecy. With the players and the NBA management still in process of talking under the collective bargaining agreement, nothing is still very much guaranteed for this year's free agents.
