Fidel Castro Makes First Public Appearance In 9 Months
Fidel Castro, former president of Cuba and one of the most influential figures in world politics in the last century made his first public appearance in months. Nine months to be exact; Castro attended an art studio opening in Havana, the capital city of Cuba.
Official Cuban newspapers and websites rushed to show pictures of the legendary leader and revolutionary pointing at art work made by artists Alexis Leyva. The ex-president was now grey-haired and was photographed while talking to Leyva.
La Vanguardia, a Spanish newspaper also published three other pictures on their website showing the black jacket and green scarf wearing Castro in different poses. In some of them the former Cuban president actually reaches out and interacts with the art work.
This is the first sign of Castro appearing in public since April when he was seen at the inauguration of a Havana school. Besides attending public inauguration, Castro also met up with Venezuealan President Nicolas Maduro.
The newly elected Maduro, the leader of one of Cuba’s main alleys, Venezuela was visiting Cuba apparently with the precise reason to meet the 87 year old ex-president that lead his country for almost half a century.
Fidel Castro handed over power to his Brother Raul after he fell seriously ill in 2006.
