FilAm Boxing Star Donaire Turns Nishioka’s Dream into a Nightmare

Toshiaki Nishioka has always dreamed of having a fight with Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire. In fact, he’s been following Donaire’s fight for years now. However on Saturday night, his greatest dream was turned into his outmost nightmare when “The Filipino Flash” knocked him down during the ninth round.

Still full of questions from Nishioka who has been dreaming of this fight, it’s is undeniably disturbing how an expected to be an action-packed bout turned out that way.

With all those flying punches and all-out-war between Brandon and Mike Alvarado in a "Fight of the Year" frontrunner, the spoiled crowd display their extreme displeasure regarding Nishioka’s reluctance to toss against Donaire. As a sign of distaste, boos from the irriated crowd bombarded the Home Depot Center in Carson, Cali at the end of the very first round.

During the fight, Donaire tried to engage Nishioka, but remained patient, as he led with jabs, and threw calculated counter hooks, straights, and uppercuts while the Japanese chose to not let his hands. Donaire's powerful jab kept Nishioka at a distance, allowing him to control the pace of the fight. He was more active, more powerful and more in control of the match than his Japanese counterpart.

Even though he only knocked Nishioka down once, Donaire steered around the ring with sneaky power. He used both hands well, worked the body and kept Nishioka off-balance despite having less experience than his opponent.

This was indeed a big fight for Donaire. Despite holding two belts, Nishioka's reputation in the division made him a tough opponent. The Filipino Flash had something to prove, and unquestionably, he proved it Saturday evening.

He's already beaten bantamweight veterans Nishioka and Vic Darchinyan. Now, he must find his next victim.
