Floyd Mayweather sentenced to jail, delays much awaited fight with Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather, the pound-for-pound boxing champion is recently put to 90 days in jail for a 2010 domestic violence charge, thus further delaying the much talked about bout between him and Manny Paquiao, the 8-time world champion.
Despite getting the services of Las Vegas lawyers, Richard Wright and Karen Winckler, Mayweather was sentenced by Justice Saragosa to 6 months after pleading guilty to lesser charges. As part of the sentence, a $2,500 fine will be paid, perform 00 hours of community service, and will require to attend a year-long domestic violence class.
The situation now puts on hold one of sports’ biggest fights and one which has been talked about since 2009.
It is likely that Bob Arum of Top Rank might consider Marquez or Bradley should negotiations for the fight with Mayweather will not push through. However, eventually the fight with either boxers will nowhere be as great nor will not attract as much attention as with that between Paquiao and Mayweather.
Should Mayweather begin his sentence, it is most likely that instead of the May 5 schedule, he might be available to fight by early June, at least. But then, it might be difficult, as he needs training for about 10-12 weeks more before the fight.
With this situation, Mayweather may as well as push his luck for a big win, not only with Pacquiao but with the charges he is facing.
