France’s First Lady, Pregnant
Finally, after being subject of pregnancy rumors for several months, France’s first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy admitted she is expecting a baby.
In a bikini shot taken in Fort de Brégançon of the Italian-French singer, she was obviously flaunting her pregnant belly, but at that time she still wasn’t confirming or denying the said rumors, until the 43-year-old’s interview with Nice-Matin newspaper.
“Coming happiness, unexpected and unhoped for,” were the words that Bruni-Sarkozy used to relate her condition to the said French publication. Questions about the baby’s gender also came up, but the former singer just said, “That, I don’t even know myself. There are certain things which one should keep secret.”
When asked about the reason why she tried to conceal the pregnancy she elegantly replied, “First of all, to protect myself, to not put my private life on display. It’s a source of great happiness for me, but after all, it’s banal and the people [of France] have plenty of problems, so it would be inappropriate to talk about it. We are already so media-exposed.”
The pregnancy rumors started early this year, and the suspicions grew wilder when she would shield her belly every time photographers approached her with cameras, but even if Bruni-Sarkozy was mum about the topic, other members of the family weren’t. Among them, Pal Sarkozy, the father of France’s president Nicolas Sarkozy said in an interview last May that, “I’m glad to be having a grandchild…The two [Bruni and son Nicolas] do not want to know the gender in advance, but I’m sure it will be a girl and as beautiful as Carla.”
Truly the family seemed to be excited with the coming addition to the family.
