Furious Obama Deals with Congress Debt Limit Negotiations
On top of the failures that the US congress has had over the debt limit negotiations, US President Barrack Obama scolded the congress, even citing that his daughters do their homeworks ahead of time.
Obama said in a press conference, "Malia and Sasha generally finish their homework a day ahead of time." The conference was the first one since last March. "Malia's 13, Sasha's 10. They don't wait until the night before. They're not pulling all nighters. Congress can do the same thing."
The negotiations cannot come into compromise as the White House and the lawmakers still cannot arrive an agreement in increasing the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, come August 2 the deadline of increase. Others, however, disagree with the increase because they think that the government do not any more have tools to pay for more debts.
Since Obama has tasked US vice president Joe Biden to oversee the debt talks, he was accused of not doing his job. He has to step in, as critics say. The president even joked in reply, "You need to be here. I've been here." He further said that he has been busy with "Afghanistan and [Osama] bin Laden and the Greek crisis."
At some point, this issue has to be resolved before recess, or else the president will "ground" congress before July 4.
Obama and Biden are scheduled to meet Senate Democrats to talk things over, and proceed with the negotiations. But this meeting has yet to be finalized, because of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's walk-out.
