Gadhafi’s Regime Nears End

Tripoli, Libya — The international community has strongly called for the stepping down of Moammar Gadhafi, Libya’s longtime leader, while rebels were able to squeak inside Gadhafi’s main compound in the capital Tripoli Monday.  Libyan residents flocked at the Green Square, the symbol of Moammar Gadhafi’s tyrannical regime, as they celebrate the near fall of the Libyan leader.

Abdel-Rahman, the rebel spokesperson, warned the public of the danger of still not fully capturing Gadhafi and a few of his loyalists. Government tanks fired at the rebels after they were able to break inside the Bab al-Aziziya, the longtime command center of Gadhafi, early Monday. Loud explosions and gunfire were heard from the Rixos Hotel, where all the foreign media and journalists covering the Libya crisis are currently staying.

It has been reported that only a few tanks remained in the compound protecting Gadhafi and soon enough the rebels will successfully overthrown Gadhafi’s remaining forces. The coordinated NATO and rebel attacks had demolished much of Gadhafi’s forces. Franco Frattini, Italian Ambassador, confirmed that only 10-15% of the capital city of Tripoli is still under the regime of Moammar Gadhafi. However, the Italian official did not further elaborate as to where and how he has come up with the said figure. Strong defiance by Gadhafi and his loyal supporters might end soon as the rebels are on their full force with the aim of cracking down the remains of Gadhafi’s rotten regime.
