Gadhafi ready to leave office
Moammar Gadhafi, the Libyan leader is “prepared to leave,” according to France's foreign minister last Tuesday.
The report was said to be coming from certain emissaries, and although they are not authorized to do negotiations with the Libyan leader, they have proved to give out pertinent information from the Libyan regime since everyone involved in Libya's civil war has contacts with everyone else, said Alain Juppe.
However, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero is denying rumors that France is acting as a go-between for Libyan rebels by passing messages to Gadhafi emissaries or that France is initiating the contact. He further said that, “The rebels, if they have the intention of sending messages, can do so themselves.” The Libyan emissaries still remain anonymous.
France has been a great help for NATO-led airstrikes operations against Gadhafi's forces to be effective. In an operational report issued last Monday, NATO was able to hit several key targets in western Libya, damages on a military storage facility, and several military vehicles were made. These operations is still part of the U.N.-mandated mission to protect civilians who are resisting the four-decade regime of Gadhafi.
The key for the attacks to cease is for Gadhafi to give up power according to French officials, and the only questions left are when and how. The operations began mid March and the law on France's participation only covers less than 5 months, so the parliament is set to vote whether to still participate or not.
