Gdansk, A Beautiful And Energetic Port City

If you want to take a vacation in which you can do some sightseeing, take some walks through a picturesque town, get your historical fix while having a water based environment without the noise and crowds of a beach resort, then, the port city of Gdansk is definitely the place for you.

From a thousand year old port to a city that defied the communist regime, history is something you live and breathe in Gdansk.

The Old Town of the city is an architectural marvel of tremendous beauty, and while It suffered heavy bombardment during WW2 it was rebuilt and still retains that busy feeling of a prosperous and rich port town it had hundreds of years ago.

The town center is dominated by St Mary’s Basilica, built between the 14th and 16th century, it is the largest building in Gdansk, and one of the largest brick built churches in Europe.

There is no lack of entertainment in Gdansk, so you can either take a walk down the breathtakingly beautiful Mariacka Street in the Old Town, or you could take a half hour train ride to Sopot, a hot spot for nightlife with street performers and top bars, restaurants, and clubs.

For the more extreme traveler Gdansk’s Hel Peninsula, which is a short train or ferry ride away offers excellent conditions for kite surfing and windsurfing,  making Gdansk a place where its rather hard to get bored.
