George Clooney Talks About Monuments Men Pay Cut
George Clooney talked in a recent interview about the pay cut he gladly took for his most recent movie called Monuments Men. The 52-year-old actor said that the entire cast accepted a pay cut to be part of what they considered an amazing project.
He said that if everyone would have asked for their full fee, the movie’s budget would have escalated around the $150 million mark. With the real budget going nowhere near that figure Clooney said everyone “worked for super cheap” just for the opportunity to be part of the movie
Monuments Men tells the story of a platoon that is tasked with finding Nazi stolen works of art and returning them to their rightful owners. Clooney said that while he knew Hitler was stealing valuable art works he had no idea that the Nazi’s were actually stealing every important piece of art they could find.
He also added that he didn’t think interesting movies about WW2 could be done, and that it took Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards to revitalize the theme.
Clooney isn't the only actor to agree to a pay cut to work on a unique project. Jonah Hill also accepted to work for $60,000 in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street, a performance that earned Hill his first Oscar nomination.
