German Teenager Raped On Indian Train

In another chapter in what is becoming a public image nightmare for the tourism board of India, a German teen has been allegedly raped by a Indian passenger that was sharing a train cabin. Tamil Nadu police officers arrested the 22-year-old Chandan Kumar who is accused of raping an 18-year-old German tourist according to local newspapers.

The teenager was in India to do volunteer work at a non-governmental agency. The heinous act supposedly happened on the road from Chennai to Mangalore on January 10th. The German national and Kumar were apparently sharing a two-tiered sleeper train.

According to the German teenager, her assailant waited for her to fall asleep before he made any sexual advancement. She also said that she was too scared to shout or alert anyone in regards to what was happening.

She could only gather the courage to file an official police report three days later on January 13th. According to Seema Agarwal, Inspector General of Police, it was too late for any relevant medical examination, however, that didn't interfere with the attentive and sensitive manner in which Indian police handled the case.

Chandan Kumar was arrested after police cross-referenced the list of train passengers. The sexual scandal comes just a couple of days after a 51-year-old Danish tourist was gang-raped in New Delhi after asking for the directions to her hotel.
