Germanwings Has A Notable Safety Record
Germanwings is a recognized, low-cost European carrier based in Cologne, Germany. The company is the operator of the Airbus A320 that crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday. It is also a subsidiary of Lufthansa.
The cause of the crash on Tuesday that resulted to the death of 144 passengers along with six crewmembers remains uncertain. The victims included sixteen high school students and two babies.
Lufthansa head Carsten Spohr tweeted that it was “a dark day for Lufthansa.” The low-cost carrier was set up in 2002 and has around 2,000 employees. In 2013, it carried over 16 million passengers to numerous destinations across Europe. It is a well-known for bringing German tourists to different vacation spots along the southern Mediterranean coast.

Germanwings has a good safety record, according to airline industry analysts. FlightSafe revealed that the airline was never involved in previously-known accidents before Tuesday’s crash. The airline industry in Germany is considered among the safest as it takes numerous safety precautions.
A Boeing safety analysis released by the Associated Press also indicated that the A320 line of aircraft has a good safety record. It only has 0.14 fatal accidents for every one million takeoffs. Lufthansa announced that it is considering the crash of the Airbus A320 as an accident.
While one of the black box recorders of the aircraft was already recovered, the crash site is essentially inaccessible. Debris from the crash was also scattered across a large area.
Investigators have indicated that any tangible information from the investigation on the reason behind the Germanwings crash is expected to be uncovered after a number of days.
