Google Glass-Like Recon Jet Pre-Orders Accepted Already

A Google Glass-like device from Recon Instruments, the Recon Jet, became available for pre-orders recently at a price tag of $499. The Pilot Edition of the Recon Jet, which features software designed for use by runners, cyclists and triatheletes.

Although some software features of the final edition of the device will not be included in the Pilot Edition. However, the company wanted to release the device into the market at the earliest possible time. A software update will provide these missing features in the future.

The regular price of the device is at $599.

The specs of the Recon Jet are similar to Google Glass. Although the device was introduced during the I/O event of Google recently, the company is not connected with the online search giant. However, the device uses the Android OS.

Athletes will be able to access important statistical and health information while protecting them from the sun. The device will also offer additional information including pace, speed, distance, time, heart rate, and others.

Dan Eisenhardt, the CEO of Recon Instruments, indicated that the response for the Google Glass-like product surpassed the expectations of the company. With the upcoming release of the SDK, the company is expecting developers to provide applications that can be used on the Recon jet.

The device can also be used to connect users with other people without using their hands. Social network data can also be uploaded and viewed by users while biking or running. The upcoming SDK of Recon is expected to see the release of third-party apps that can be used in any activity.

Eisenhardt also said that the company worked on producing high-performance sunglasses HUD for sports following the introduction of its first Heads-Up-Display for snow sports.

The Recon Jet features a 1GHz dual-core processor, dedicated graphics, GPS, HD camera, and a range of sensors similar to the ones found on smartphones and tablets. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ANT+.

The Google Glass-like Recon Jet will become available in a number of markets soon, including Europe, Australia, Japan, and the United States.
