Google Nexus 7 Display May Be Used By iPad Mini Retina
Since the screen resolution of the second-generation Google Nexus 7 is among the highest for tablets in the market, it may be possible for the iPad Mini Retina of Apple to use a similar screen resolution once it enters the market.
A sneak preview of a Retina display that is expected be used on the next iPad Mini may have been offered by the latest seven-inch tablet of Google. According to Richard Shim of NPD DisplaySearch, the latest tablet offering of the inline search giant features a display resolution of 1920 by 1200, which is similar to the one that will be utilized on the Apple iPad Mini Retina.
The pixel density of the Google Nexus 7 is at 323 pixels per inch, which is one of the highest among all tablets in the market. The Apple iPad Mini Retina is expected to offer a similar pixel density.
Shim said that the low-temperature poly-silicon display of Japan Display Inc. is used on the second-generation Google Nexus 7. This is the same technology that Apple is reportedly taking into consideration for its iPad Mini Retina. This is the first time the LTPS display is used on a tablet. Since the technology is not easy to scale into bigger displays, the LTPS display is primarily used on smartphones, including the iPhone 5 of Apple.
However, with the launch of the latest tablet offering of Google, it may appear that Apple will use the LTPS display on its future devices. The company is also looking into using the IGZO displays of Sharp for its iPad Mini Retina.
For the moment, it remains uncertain which technology will be used on the upcoming tablet offering of Apple. The Apple iPad Mini Retina is expected to be launched near the start of next year, which is some time after the second-generation Google Nexus 7 was launched by the internet search giant.
