Google unveils ‘Google TV’

Google unveils Google TV which would combine the Internet and traditional television.

Google is set to launch a possibly revolutionary system called Google TV which would combine the Internet and traditional television.

That would pave the way for people to watch television shows and movies without relying on the service of broadcast networks and cable companies.

Consumers will need to purchase a set-top box from Google that connects to the Internet. They will be able to operate Google TV with a keyboard and gadgets like the iPhone or Android phones.

This early, entertainment industry executives are anxious that Google TV will decimate their industry like what the Internet did to the music and newspaper industries.

Hollywood insiders believe that Google TV will make people cut their paid cable and satellite TV subscriptions and will watch videos and movies free via the Internet instead.

But NewTeeVee.com says that it will be fairly easy to offer a Google TV-specific version that would allow sending content one finds on the Internet straight to a TV set. A person watching a television show while browsing his or her Facebook feed on your computer, then that person finds a video which a friend has recommended in the Facebook feed, clicks on a simple TV button in the browser, and the video clip will then be shown on his or her flat screen television set.

The concept of the browser as a remote control has been explored by the use of the iPad as the remote control, but the dedicated apps make the user switch back and forth between the TV remote and the Internet.
