Greg Hardy Placed On The Inactive List

Greg Hardy was benched by Coach Ron Rivera of the Carolina Panthers before the game of the team against the Detroit Lions. Rivera revealed the change in the climate in the NFL compelled the team to make things right by putting Hardy in the inactive list.

Although Rivera did not rule out the possibility that Hardy will return to the active list, he did not give any timetable for a possible return.

Hardy was convicted of assault and communicating threats on July 15. The ruling is currently under appeal. He was replaced by Wes Horton in the lineup. The benching of Hardy follows a week of negative publicity on the NFL after a number of incidents of personal misconduct among its players.

Antoine Cason, cornerback for the Panthers, said it was important to support Greg Hardy since it was not easy to know what he going through at the moment. The Panthers cornerback discovered that Hardy was in the inactive list just before the game started. However, Carson did not say whether the right decision was made on the case of Hardy. The players are leaving the decision to Rivera.

Carolina limited Detroit to a single touchdown after scoring 35 points against the Giants. Although Hardy was given a guilty verdict, North Carolina criminal procedures allow the ruling to be appealed.

Jerry Richardson, owner of the Panthers, broke down when he talked about domestic violence. Richardson said his stand against domestic violence is strong. He also said that people who thought they acted slowly on the issue should not judge too quickly.

Hardy was not available on the sideline during the Panthers’ game against the Lions. He was also not available for interviews following the end of the game. Last season, Hardy helped the Panthers lead the NFL in sacks with 60. The last 32 games saw Greg Hardy compiling a total of 26 sacks.
