Patrick Dempsey, who plays neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd on the hit drama series "Grey's Anatomy," proved to save lives not only on television but also in real life.  A real-life hero!

Dempsey pulled a teenage boy to safety whose car flipped over near the star's home in Malibu, California last week.

"I was scared for my life, I was upside down," said Weston Masset.

The teenager was barely conscious and was trapped inside the twisted wreck of his car.

Fortunately, Dempsey saw the car flip.  He used a crow bar to pry the doors open. He, then, pulled the teenage age to safety and called paramedics, who airlifted Masset to the hospital.

His first words upon seeing Dempsey pulling him out of the wreck were, "'Are you famous?" and Dempsey said, "Yeah I'm a doctor," Masset recounted.  Miraculously, Masset only had a concussion and an eye injury.

Dempsey telephoned the boy's mother to inform her of the situation.

"He had a certain authority in his voice," said Mary Beth Masset, the teenager’s mother. "I asked if he was a paramedic and he said no, 'this is Patrick Dempsey.'"

"I'm just super grateful. I can't wait to thank him personally," said Mary Beth Masset.
