“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” To Be Published
The Pottermore website of J.K. Rowling announced recently that a "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" book is set to be published this summer. The book is the eighth installment of the series, which was made into a two-part play.
In the story, Harry is a father trying to bring up his son. A special rehearsal edition will be made available on July 31 at midnight. This will be one day after the play will hit the stage in London. The latest installment in the series is the first Harry Potter story to be officially presented on stage. It is based on an original story by Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne. Thorne is also the writer of the story.
Little, Brown Book Group CEO David Shelley said through a statement that they are excited to publish the script of the play. He said J.K. Rowling received a number of appeals from fans who are unable to see "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" in London but wanted to read the play as a book. Due to this, Shelley said, they were delighted that the book will be published to make it available to these fans.
At the end of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," it shows Harry bidding goodbye to his children at Platform 9 3/4 around nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts. The play comes right after this scene with Harry being a part of the Ministry of Magic. In the story, Harry and one of his sons, Albus, are struggling with the legacy of the family and the darkness.
Pottermore will simultaneously publish the print edition and eBook of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" together with Scholastic in the US and Canada and Little, Brown Book Group in the UK. Pottermore is the e-commerce and digital entertainment company of Rowling.
The limited preview edition of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" will not be the final edition to allow the creative team of the play to make any changes in the play, the publisher said. A "Definitive Collector's Edition" will also be released at a later time. The seven-volume series of Rowling sold more than 450 million copies around the world.
