Henrik Lundqvist Signs Seven Years Extension With The Rangers
The New York Rangers have secured the goalie position for the next 7 years as Henrik Lundqvist signed a contract extension that will earn him an average of $8.5 million in the next 7 years.
This 2013 marked the last season of Lundqvist’s previous six year contract that earned him a whopping $41.25 million. The season, however isn't’t going as well for the goalie as he would have hoped. With a 8-11 and 2.51 goals against average, also with a .917 save percentage Lundqvist is having a less than impressive season. One reason might be that he is still having a tough time adjusting to the new, smaller equipment the NHL imposed on all goal-keepers in the league.
This doesn't mean that he still isn't one of the best goalies in the NHL or that he doesn't deserve to be the best payed goal-keeper in the league, as his new contract will make him. Runner’s up in the financial department will be Tuukka Rask from the Boston Bruins with an average of $7.5 million and Pekka Rinne from the Nashville Predators with a $7 million a year average salary.
The only thing for Ranger fans left to complain about is not the goalie position or Henrik Lundqvist’s form, it’s his cap as he will be almost 40 when the contract ends, an age when most goalies are retired or in a less than impressive shape.
